LAPUTA: CASTLE IN THE SKY / EL CASTILLO EN EL CIELO (1986, Tenku no Shiro Laputa, Film)

The crystals of power made possible for the laputian civilization to build floating castles in the sky. But 700 years later the only thing that remains from them it's a myth. Some say that hidden from the eyes of men the island of Laputa, the capital of the ancient Kingdom, still flies. The army searchs for it in order to conquer the world with its powers. The pirates just want its legendary treasure. The last of the crystals is the key to find the lost city, and it lies on the hands of an innocent young girl: Sheeta, our heroine.

 

Laputa its in between the Science Fiction and the Fantasy genre. But I think it has an strong aspect of a 'Fairy Tale', thats why I put it under the Fantasy list (and after all, Sheeta is a princess locked in a castle and... also a Witch). The Sky, the Earth, and the Mines, show us very different worlds; and what is untold creates a sense of deepness: you can feel there is a long story behind each of this worlds (and of course, you want to know more of them). Every single scene is perfect, among the best in the history of animation. The humour is very candid, the sort of things that made us laugh when the world was young. The way the story is told is simply magnificent, and the plot catches your attention till the very end. Miyazaki and his people made anime reach the heights of this floating Castle, and more than 25 years after its premiere you look at this gem, and wonder. (by_pelida77)

Los cristales le permitieron a la civilización lapuciana construir castillos flotantes en el cielo; pero tras 700 años solo queda de ellos un mito. Un rumor recorre la Tierra, el de la isla flotante de Laputa, capital del antiguo reino. El ejército la busca para dominar mediante su poder el mundo, los piratas para hacerse de sus riquezas. El último de los cristales contiene la clave para hallar la ciudad perdida, y reside en las manos de una inocente muchacha: Sheeta, nuestra heroína.  ///  Genéricamente Laputa se encuentra entre el SciFi y el Fantasy, pero creo que su fuerte aspecto de cuento maravilloso le suscribe bajo este último (y al fin y al cabo Sheeta es una princesa y una hechicera). El cielo, la Tierra y las minas nos muestran mundos distintos que dan una impresión de profundidad; se intuye que hay una larga historia detrás de estos mundos. Cada escena es perfecta, entre lo mejor de la historia de la animación. El humor es tierno, la clase de cosas que hacían reír cuando el mundo era joven. La narración es sencillamente magnífica, se dice sólo lo justo pero el espectador no pierde detalle, y su argumento atrapa hasta el final. Miyazaki y su gente lograron que el animé alcanzara las alturas mismas de este castillo flotante, y a 25 años de su estreno, no se puede más que mirar esta joya y asombrarse. (by pelida77)
